I love sharing my recipes with you every week but sometimes we just want a hot meal on the table and don’t have time to make it ourselves. Thanks to some of our local chefs, you don’t have to be the only one preparing home cooked, delicious meals for your family! Enjoy these and take a night off!
Owned by Chatham mom, Jen Teutli Alacorn, who was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexican Spice has fully prepared authentic Mexican meals to go available every day from 3:30 – 7:30 pm at Main Street Wine Cellars.
Jen began Mexican Spice at the Chatham Farmer’s Market 3 years ago. She started by offering salsas and a few different meals “to-go”. The next year she joined the Madison Farmer’s market. “My sons would all help me at the markets with the setup and sales and it turned into their “job” too. (That part I really loved:)) I am so passionate about the authenticity of the food. I dream of new recipes and experiment all the time. I love planning parties and helping set up a beautiful buffet with delicious food.”
A year ago Jen began leasing a permanent space for Mexican Spice on Cross Street. Now, she has partnered with Amrish at Main Street Wine Cellars, and Daddy Matty’s BBQ to offer prepared meals in a pop up store.
The most popular items available at the pop are store are the Specialty Boxes such as Shredded Chicken Tinga and Roasted Pork Carnitas which include tortillas, crema, salsa, rice and charro beans (serves at least 3 people). There is also an extended menu available which can be pre-ordered from their website, but you will always find homemade chips, freshly made salsas and guacamole as well as a bunch of Mexican goodies to go with your meal. Meals begin at $36. Homemade salsas, guac and chips are $6.
Looking to cater your next party with something a little different, Jen and her staff of 3 cater parties every weekend. (By the way, I was at a party last weekend catered by Jen and the food was AMAZING!). Not only do they provide amazing salsas, guac, homemade chips, taco fixings, sides and more but Jen also provides the authentic serving pieces and table linens to really enhance the theme of the meal. Catering prices begin at $22 per person.
Mexican Spice is a full service catering operation with a pop-up shop inside Main Street Wine Cellars (Staples Shopping Center, 306 Main Street) selling fully prepared meals, salsas and more to go, daily from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

Daddy Matty’s BBQ
Daddy Matty’s BBQ is a community focused caterer with a retail shop located also at Main Street Wine Cellars, with awesome homemade BBQ and sides, available daily. Daddy Matty’s motto is “Everybody Eats” and they have made it their purpose to not only sell great food, but also to give back to the community through a partnership with the Morris County Interfaith Food Pantry.\
Local dad, and all around nice guys, Matt James began making good bbq for friends and neighbors and soon turned that love into a side business. Recently, Matt brought home his own custom smoker, where he can smoke up to 1500 pounds of meat. Now, it is available to the masses, daily at Main Street Wine Cellars (Staples Shopping Center, 306 Main Street) from 3:30 – 7:30 pm.
Daddy Matty’s features a BBQ box each week, with a la carte items also available. The boxes have featured: Pulled Pork Sliders, Brisket, Baby Back Ribs and BBQ chicken. Each box is paired with 2 sides, and all the meals includes green chile cornbread w/ honey butter and quick pickled red onions and cucumbers. Meal boxes are $35-$38 per box, and feed 2-3 adults (I can tell you that my two kids and I got the ribs one night last week and we couldn’t even finish it). Some other a la carte items are watermelon & feta salad, potatoes with chorizo and herbs, mac & cheese and cole slaw.
Daddy Matty’s also does awesome catering and his own BBQ sauce is available for purchase online, in the shop or at Barth’s Market in New Providence.
Pre-ordering is strongly recommended as the shop has sold out on meal boxes more often than not. You can order on their website.
Our own Italian specialty store recently added prepared meals to their freezer and we couldn’t be more thrilled! So now, while shopping for that perfect gift for the person who has everything, or while browsing the small batch olive oils and vinegars, you can also grab dinner to go!
You can usually find an assortment of meals, ranging from eggplant parmesan to lasagna and so much more in the freezer. There are even gluten-free items available. While you’re there, pick up some gran padano or fresh mozzarella, and some fresh bread to nibble on while your food is heating up at home!
