Books I’ve Read (April 2014)

Another busy book reading month. It seems like the more I read… the more I read. (Does that make any sense what-so-ever?)  I just started my 13th book of the month last night.  13!!!  I also can’t seem to stop joining book groups.  So… some of these books are for From Left to Write.  Some are from NetGalley.  I found 2 blog tour groups and joined those on Facebook.  And… occasionally I actually pick a book all by myself!!!  Reading is my obsession.  I have a few reviews in the works… and I’ll post them as I finish them.  Until then… I’ll give a little quicky and the book covers link to Amazon.

Loki’s Wolves: The Blackwell Pages
by K.L. Armstrong and M.A. Marr

Loved the characters.  Loved the way the author has continued the stories of Norse mythology with a new spin.  (Thor, Odin, Loki, etc.)  It kept making my mind work to recall the myths.  I can add this to Zoe’s reading list.

In Too Deep
by Anita Philmar

Full book review post.

Like Honey
by Liz Everly

It’s really the 3rd book in a series.  You CAN read it as a stand alone and I don’t think you miss anything… although characters from the 1st 2 books make slight appearances as supporting players.  I’ll definitely go back and read the other 2 books.  I’m still trying to decide if I want to call this a mystery with a side of romance and heat… or a hot romance with a side of mystery.

Still Life with Strings
by L.H. Cosway

Didn’t love the cover.  Still don’t.  After I read the first sentence in the description I knew I had to read it to find out what it had to do with the cover.  (“My name is Jade Lennon and I stand still for money.”)  I am always a sucker a story about 2 damaged characters trying to find each other.  I really loved that you found out early on that the 2 main characters had issues… but slowly learned what had happened in their past as the story progressed.  Thinking about the story makes me miss the characters.

Reasons My Kid Is Crying (link to my post inspired by book)
by Greg Pembroke

Reaper’s Touch
by Eleri Stone

My friend Eleri wins again.  I mean… she successfully put together zombies, cowboys, a little bit steampunk and a whole lot of and romance.

Rose
by Holly Webb

Really enjoyed this and can’t wait for the 2nd book.  Absolutely giving to Zoe to read.  Rose is taken out of an orphanage and placed into the home of an alchemist/magician as one of the servants.  But… she has magic of her own.  Love the mystery.

Accidentally on Purpose (Series book #1)
by L.D. Davis

I read all 3 books at once.  I would suggest if you’re going to read 1 you read them all.  It’s really almost 1 story told from 3 points of view.  Each book contains some of the same dialogue and scenes… but you’re in the head of the 3 different main characters.  I have to say I really really loved getting the different points of view, and truly hearing the entire story.  No one book has the whole story.  You know me… I love a well developed character.

Worthy of Redemption (Accidentally on Purpose #2)
by L.D. Davis

Worth the Fight (Accidentally on Purpose #3)
by L.D. Davis

Paranormal Protection Agency: Volume 1
by Mina Carter

This is actually 5 separate novellas published into 1 book.  I have to say I didn’t really love them.  I don’t think I’m a novella kind of person.  When I story is only a few chapters long I just don’t get the character development that makes me fall in love with a book.  I liked the stories… but I felt like I was finally getting into it and it was over.  5 times.

Bittersweet
by Miranda Beverly-Whittemore

I think I would say this is my favorite book this month.  Very well written.  I loved the whole mystery… and felt really connected to Mabel (the main character).

Crash Landing: Aurora Conspiracy Prequel Series – Episode 1
by Ginger Gelsheimer & Christina Keats

I’m a few chapters in.   An “alien” crash lands on Earth on the farm of a judge, his wife, and daughter.  It’s 1897.  While nursing Aurelius (the alien) back to health Emily (the daughter) falls in love with him.  Like I said… I’m just a few chapters in.  I’m not quite sure yet about this “prequel” thing.  I don’t know exactly where the conspiracy comes in.  I’ll let you know if a month since I have episode 2, 3, and 4 waiting to be read.

  2. Wow. I love that there is a book called “Reasons My Kid is Crying.” I think it’s such an important thing for people to know. It can be heartbreaking, frustrating and a struggle unless we understand. How great. Thanks for sharing the list!
